Newcastle could ruin AC Milan transfer plans

Newcastle United are now backed by one of the richest people in the world and could snatch AC Milan’s top transfer target.

Without a doubt, European football expects a lot from Newcastle United in the January transfer window. The English club should spent a great amount to build a brand new squad and the Saudi owners are ready to provide abundant funds.

The Magpies were acquired a few months ago by Saudi Arabia’s PIF fund. In terms of assets and investment capacity, Newcastle has become the richest and wealthiest club in the world. Given the delicate position on the table, in January Newcastle will have to intervene considerably on the market to secure Premier League stay.

A big number of prestigious names have been linked to Newcastle. From Isco, Aubameyang, Cavani or Digne, up to Roma star Veretout. However, the Magpies share the same top transfer target with AC Milan, Sven Botman.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle have been working for a long time to sign Botman. At the same time, the Rossoneri have opened talks to sign the Dutch centre back to replace the injured Simon Kjaer but the English club has much bigger economic capacities.

Newcastle are willing to offer 35 million euros to snatch Sven Botman from Lille reports Daily Mail. An important fee that would meet the asking price of the French club. It would be impossible for AC Milan to match that figure. Instead, the Rossoneri have proposed to sign Botman initially on loan with an option to buy.

Nevertheless, the last word belongs to the 21-year-old player. Despite being offered a rich contract, the Netherlands international is not convinced of joining a club that is fighting to avoid relegation this season.
